Five whole days? Really!?

Evening my lovelies! It’s been a rough week so I’m going to tell you a story;

On a Monday morning in March a middle aged man, with thick dark hair (my Dad) made his way into his local town for a much awaited meeting with a funeral director to begin the process of organising his wife’s funeral, as many as three weeks after her death. Later that afternoon the trill of his mobile phone ringing revived him from his worries and he swiftly answered the phone to his teenage daughter, proceeding to tell her the story of his morning. In essence she discovered from him that the funeral in whole was going to cost no less than £3400 and prior to these arrangements being settled a deposit of an immense £974 from a man who has spent his life living on benefits from caring for his severely disabled wife. In effort to support her troubled father the daughter then went on to spend her entire afternoon perched behind her laptop researching funeral funding for those on a low-income. Unfortunately this happened to be the most pointless expedition yet and she would have had more success in actually doing her Spanish homework. After a phone call to a particularly rude young man on the helpline for the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) it seemed that paying for her mother’s funeral was going to be a heck of a lot more difficult than she had anticipated. Essentially, the government legislation means that in order to apply for funeral funding from them they need conformation of the date of the service, unfortunately said date cannot be confirmed without the aforementioned deposit, and the aforementioned deposit can often not be paid sans the mythical funding. You see the problem?

Later in the week after a phone call from her uncle and a certain cousin Geoff who seemed to have magically appeared out of the woodwork, the daughter managed to obtain the help and assistance in talking to these government phonies from her so-far-unhelpful family. However, that said, this did seem to work to some avail as by Friday evening (yes that’s four days later!) there was news of a possible date and funding! Hoorah! Then by Saturday morning plans were finally beginning to be confirmed. Finally!! Five days though? Really!?

The End.

That was my week, and considering what tomorrow is I can safely say that the next one isn’t going to start awfully well.

Rona x
